The Polytechnic museum is the largest technical museum in Russia and also a scientific and cultural-leisure centre. It is the most well-known museum which collects historical items of science and technology.

The museum’s exhibition should be interesting both for adults and children alike. Those interested in science will see unususal items of science and technology. If you are on holidays with children in Russia, there are also special tours intended for the small guests of our capital.

The first exhibition was of items from the Polytechnic exhibition of 1872. Some of these collections can still be seen today. In 1991, the collection of the museum became federal property.

Today, the Polytechnic museum preserves more that 100 extensive collections where more than 160,000 items can be viewed. There are many items that are considered to be unique with respect to their scientific and technological values. Everything is laid out in chronological sequence so that it should be much easier to see all the displays. The Museum occupies very large grounds of 10,500 sq. m., and the guide will give you explanations on all objects. You will start from genuine original materials and documents to various pieces of technical equipment and machines with valuable scale models.

There are many departments each dedicated to individual themes, such as Geology and Mining, Engineering , Chemical technology, Automobile transport, Automation and Computers, different items of Radio electronics and Communication, Meteorology, Optics, Power engineering and even Cosmonautics can be found in the Museum.

There are numerous interesting options… for example, you can participate in riveting physical experiments in the new "Igroteka" department that is in the form of an interactive exposition.

The tour takes approximately 3 hours.
