Today, the museum occupies second place in size, after the Hermitage, in Saint Petersburg, and it is, therefore, one of the largest museums of foreign and national art in Russia.

Professor I. Tsvetaev, of Moscow University, and father of the famous poet Marina Tsvetaeva, decided to build such museum. To start with, the museum was used as an educational branch of Moscow State University. Later, the collection was added to and enriched tremendously, by genuine works of art. At present, the museum includes valuable sculptures and artefacts of ancient times such as manuscripts, coins and medals as well as paintings and engravings.

We invite you to an informative and interesting tour of The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts our experienced guide and see the charming antique building first-hand. You will notice the colonnade façade that replicates the ancient colonnade of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.

You will see a unique collection of Egyptian mummies and antique tall, slender, twin-handled vases or amphorae and wine mixing bowls called craters. They were found by the archeologist V.Golenishev and gifted to the Museum.

There, you will have the chance to see the greatest canvases painted by world famous artists. Included are: Rembrandt, Botticelli, Canaletto, Guardi, Tieplo as well as an impressive collection of the Little Dutch Masters and impressionists: Van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet, Picasso and an unequalled opportunity to appreciate the works of postimpressionist and modernist artists and others that belong to the gold collection of world art heritage. Moreover, now it is possible to see art gallery of many private collections that were previously inaccessible for the public for many years.

It really is a must-see place! After viewing all the collections and listening to the guide’s narration, you should be well stocked with memories (and, of course, well-educated in art) for a long time to come.

The tour takes approximately 1,5 hours.
