Everybody knows about Tretyakov Picture Gallery and Pushkin museum, but not everyone has heard of the enormous works of art and sculptures of modern time at the Tsereteli Art Gallery. It is a big display, created by the president of the Russian academy of Arts, Zurab Tsereteli, who wanted to bring our national culture back to prominence, as it used to be during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The museum and exhibition halls of Tsereteli Art Gallery are to be found in one of the city’s most gorgeous buildings in the classical style of the "classicism epoch." Designed by the well-known architect Matvei Kazakov, in the 18th century, the building used to be the stately home of the Counts Dolgorukov. During Soviet times, the house fell into a bad state or repair. Today, following its reconstruction and repair, everyone can enjoy its facade and insides restored to their original splendor.

The Tsereteli Art Gallery first opened its doors to the public in March, 2001, so now you will have a unique opportunity to join our tour of the Tsereteli Art Gallery and its huge exhibition space, occupying more than 10,000 sq. m.

Our guide will show you a permanent exhibition of Tsereteli’s works. You will have chance to view his paintings, massive sculptures, graphic art works, enamel panels and bronze miniatures.

He has distinctively sculptured portraits made of bronze, representing noted figures of Russian culture of the 20th century named "My Contemporaries" which you might find very interesting. At The Gallery, there is a huge monument called "Good Defeats Evil". The centre of the atrium is a massive bronze apple where all the visitors can trace the history of human passions from the so-called "Fall." The walls of the room around the perimeter are decorated with monuments on the Bible themes depicting the "spiritual rebirth."

While with us, you will see the artist’s latest monuments "Night at the Ipatiev House" commemorating the assassination of the last Russian Tsar’s family. Another of Tsereteli Art Gallery exhibits is "Wives of the Decembrists. Gates of Fate" which are also on show.

Added to this there is an impressive display of the most valuable items of the Academy Research Museum collection.

There is much to see in the Tsereteli Art Gallery so that our memories and experiences of well-known art-works will stay with you the rest of your life.
