When the USA Air Force started development of the B-70 bomber and A-12 attack plane to deliver nuclear weapons to the Soviet Union while traveling at Mach 3 at altitudes over 70,000 ft, the Soviets started planning a new super fast, high-altitude interceptor - The MiG 25"Foxbat". The B-70 project wasn’t finished while the MiG-25 program continued and the fastest fighter in the world was produced. The MiG-25 was designed only for high-altitude flight and has terrible low-level performance and dog fighting characteristics.
