MIG-31 - Interceptor Fighter

MiG-31 Foxhound - Intended to intercept and defeat maneuverable aerial targets at low and high altitudes, in forward and aft hemispheres, in free airspace and against the earth background, in VFR and IFR conditions, as well as in active and passive jamming environments.

Its avionics complex MiG-31 enables it to:

• simultaneously detect up to ten targets and engage four of them in one attack;
• intercept aerial targets according to information received from an automated ground control system, as well as when carrying out semiautonomous actions in a discontinuous control field or autonomous group actions;
• exchange information about targets in the automatic mode between four interceptors patrolling the airspace of up to 800 km wide;
• send target designation data to interacting aircraft in mixed groups.

The avionics MiG-31 includes:

• the RP-31E radar sight complex;
• the KN-25 navigation complex;
• an automatic flight control system;
• a weapon control system;
• dedicated equipment to ensure interaction between ground guidance posts and group interceptors;
• a radar illumination warning station;
• a flight data monitoring and recording system;
• a generalized built-in test system.

The fighter’s weapon suite consists of four R-33E long-range air-to-air missiles, two R-40TD-1 medium-range air-to-air missiles, four R-60MK short-range air-to-air missiles, and a built-in 23 mm gun.
