Vyazma Flight Center

Vyazma Flight Center

Vyazma Flight Center (Vyazemsky Aero Club) is situated in the sports aerodrome "Dvoevka" not far from town of Vyazma. Vyazma is an Old Russian town which was founded in 1239. During the World War II, this aerodrome was a base for jet fighter regiments for special service. They were designed as the fastest speeds and vertical-climb rates at that time fighters MiG-3. It was these fighter jets which defended Moscow during the war. In June, 1960, the Educational Aviation Centre was organized on the aerodrome. Instructors prepared of MiG-15UtI and MiG-17 jet fighter pilots for service in the Soviet Army. By 1982, it had trained over 4,000 pilots. By the way, here in Vyazma, in 1972, Svetlana Savitskaja – the second woman in the Space – was trained to fly jet fighter planes.

The "Russ" Aerobatics Team is also based in Vyazma Flight Center.

Now, Vyazma Flight Center provides pilot-training from beginner pilots who have never flown to skilled pilots who wish to improve their flight qualifications. The Aero Club has all facilities to provide services both for those who just come to make a single flight in an Albatross L-39 and those who have come for the full training course. There are comfortable rooms for flight instructions and flight lessons, doctor’s room and cafeteria where you always can have a satisfactory snack. There is an excellent observation deck where your guests can watch your training or the "Russ" Aerobatics Team training.

Vyazma Aero Club has different types of planes such as L-29, L-39 and An-2. If you would like, you can make a parachute jump or try the mini ejecting system which throws you up 1 meter high.

There is a museum of first man in the Space – Yuri Gagarin – not far from Vyazma. If you want to see the place of his birth, we will be glad to arrange the tour for you.
