The State Museum of Cosmonautics History named by K.E. Tsiolkovsky
The State Museum of Cosmonautics History named by K.E. Tsiolkovsky is one of the biggest space museums in the world, and was opened with personal help of S.P. Korolev and Yuri Gagarin, in 1967. It is situated in Kaluga – the hometown of the well-known Russian scientist Tsiolkovsky, who was the founder of theoretical astronautics, an inventor, and a writer of philosophical and sociological books. The museum exhibits represent the history of aviation, aeronautics and space-rocket engineering.
The halls of the museum are dedicated to the history of space artifacts, from the first artificial satellite to modern space stations and space flights. You would see unique exhibit items, such as the first artificial Satellites, space descent vehicles for exploring Moon, Mars and Venus, and a large collection of rocket engines.
There is the planetarium with globes of the Moon, the Earth, Mars and the starry sky. The special sky projector for the "Planetarium" is installed under a 10-meter dome-screen.
The beauty and magnificence of the starry sky cannot be compared with anything. You will be able to see the beautiful Milky Way.
Also you can visit the Memorial house of K. Tsiolkovsky which is located in the Kaluga region, where he lived for 29 years. He wrote a lot of his major works on aerostation, aviation, jet propulsion and astronautics in this house.
We also recommend visiting The Tsiolkovsky memorial apartment where he spent his formative years.
The museum is opened for visiting on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 9:30 till 17:00 and on Wednesday from 11:00 till 19:00. The days off: Monday.
